Notater:
Johan I Oldenburg liv
After the death of his father, Count Christian II, in 1233, he first succeeded his uncle Otto I as Count of Oldenburg and ruled alone since 1251.
In 1244, together with Otto I, he founded the Cistercian monastery of Rosenthal in Maylage, that in 1251 the Börstelerwald was laid on an already existing fort of the counts.
In 1258/59 he made the breach of the penitentiary in favor of his cousin. He contended with Rüstringen, Ostringen, and Stedingen, and maintained his rights and new acquisitions.
He gave up the castle of Berne in the battle with Bremen-city and, together with his uncle Delmenhorst, founded what provoked Stedingen.
Like his ancestors, he fought much with the Wildeshausen cousins. In the end, their county for Oldenburg was lost to the bishops of Münster and the archbishops of Bremen, which was the occasion of centuries-long disputes with these spiritual powers, which increasingly impregnated Oldenburg-Delmenhorst.
