  Notater:

Hermann (I) zur Lippe, ruled in Lippe, probably together with his brother Bernhard I in the mid twelfth century. The names of their parents aren't identified,[1] though some sources propose another man named Hermann.[2] There is also a suggestion that they may be descendants of the family of the Counts of Werl (Graf von Werl),[3] but this may just be based on the use of the names Hermann and Bernhard, which are also found in that family.

The brothers, Hermann and Bernhard, are witnesses to charters dated 11 April 1129 and 11 October 1138, and Bernhard is also mentioned in a charter dated 5 March 1123.[4] The last mention of Bernhard is in 1158 and 1160 for Hermann and it is presumed they both died about those dates.

The name of Hermann's wife is unknown, but he was the father of two, possibly three children:

Son, possibly also named Hermann, perhaps born about 1138, accompanied Emperor Friedrich I to Italy, or was in his army, and died near Rome 29 August 1167 of a plague;[5]
Bernhard II, perhaps born about 1140, successor in Lippe
?Guta, died 24 January, year unknown, married Ludolf II, Graf von Wöltingerode-Woldenburg (died after 6 June 1101.[6]

Hermann blev gift med.
